Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips;
meditate on it day and night,
so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.
Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Joshua 1:8
(New International Version)
I have always found this scripture an amazing formula that has been made available to us for Success.
I have read it, spoken about it, meditated on it, and with God’s help taken action on it at different times.
There are always 3 things that stand out each time I go back to it:
- Speak God’s word
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips;
We are clearly instructed to speak God’s word, I believe not just for the benefit of others (as we may think), but for ourselves.
God’s Word says:
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God
Romans 10:17
(New King James Version)
To increase our faith, we need to hear the word of God; but we can do this not only from sermons and inspirational messages which are very important to our spiritual growth, but from ourselves, our lips.
Also, when we speak God’s word about ourselves, our situation / circumstance, our heart’s desires and more, we are coming into agreement with what God says about the same thing. Agreeing with God’s word concerning us is a step of faith that increases our faith even more.
2. Get Silent (quiet) with God’s Word
meditate on it day and night,
We must take time out to read God’s word, think about it, write it out. Take it one scripture at a time, or even one line at a time if necessary, prayerfully ask God, the Holy Spirit to teach you:
What does it mean?
What is God saying to me?
What action does God want me to take?
3. Set out to do God’s word
so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.
Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Lastly, prayerfully set out to take action on that which God has spoken to you about. Remember to prayerfully seek counsel if necessary and be open to learning new things (do some research if necessary).
Remember that God is a good Father; we have the Holy Spirit as our Helper and Jesus, our Intercessor by the right hand of the Father.
