This week we will be looking at Do It Yourself (DIY) Search Engine Optimisation, popularly called SEO.
Search Engine Optimisation is sometimes a scary topic for those who do not understand it but is simply the process of increasing the visibility of a website or web pages through “unpaid” (called organic) search results.
The higher ranked a website appears on search engines like Google frequently, the more visitors it will receive from search engines users.
So here are 3 Ways to Simple and DIY Search Engine Optimisation:
1. Images
Search engines cannot read images so make sure that:
- you save the images on your website with a relevant name, for example, smallbusinessmarketing.jpg
- Put in alternative text for your image, Tag your image, and add descriptive text and Title in the fields provided, for example, “book on spiritual growth”
2. Keyword Placement
As most internet marketers say, Content is King. Content that is relevant to your target market, optimised with the keywords that your target market searches on and published regularly can greatly help the ranking of your website on search engines.
(Keywords are the specific words your target market types into search engines when looking for your products and services, for example, Business Books, Marketing Coach – to find out yours, try this free tool)
Some Strategic places to place your keywords within your articles or content are:
- Headers and Sub headers
- First and Last Paragraph of your article
- 1 Primary keyword and at least 2 secondary keywords on every page of your website
Install an SEO plug-in such as the “All in one SEO plug-in” and a Sitemap plug-in like the “Google XML Sitemap plug-in” on your site. The SEO plug-in automatically optimizes your website titles for search engines while the Google XML Sitemap will help you create a sitemap and automatically update this as and when necessary.
